Research Area

I am a computational biologist. I joined the Department of Bioinformatics, Pondicherry University as an Assistant Professor in 2009. Since then,ย  I have been offering the courses, โ€˜Biostatisticsโ€™, โ€˜Programming in Perlโ€™ and โ€˜Bioinformatics: Sequence Analysisโ€™ to M.Sc. Bioinformatics students, and โ€˜Mathematics for Biosciencesโ€™, โ€˜Fundamentals of Biostatisticsโ€™ and โ€˜Perl Programming for Biologistsโ€™ to M. Tech. Computational Biology students.ย My research group focuses on (i) discovering novel therapeutics against multi-drug resistant pathogens, (ii)ย characterization of unannotated genes/proteins of pathogenic significance, and (iii) dissecting metabolic pathways associated with draught response mechanisms in economically important plant speciesย using integrated computational approaches.

I did my post graduation in Applied Mathematics at Jadavpur University, Kolkata and was awarded Ph.D. in 1998 by the same university for the work on โ€˜Computational analysis of statistical compositions of nucleotide sequencesโ€™. I have several years of postdoctoral experience from CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Kolkata and Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata in the field of computational biology. I had an opportunity to serve as a lecturer for a short period at Jadavpur University, Kolkata as well.
